ALAN
THOMPSON
Assistant Pastor / Mission Director
Alan Thompson has been on staff with Calvary
Tucson since July of 2002. He is the Missions Pastor, helping our church
body in local missions and reaching out
internationally. His vision is to train and
equip members of the body of Christ to reach out
into the world and share their love and faith
through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. One of
Alan's greatest desires is to see God call many
members of Calvary Tucson onto mission fields
throughout the world.
Alan has been a Christian since 1974, coming out
of the hippie and drug culture of the 60's and
70's. He became Christian through the witness of
two friends and their faithfulness to share the
Gospel. As a young Christian, Alan spent many
hours reading the Bible and growing in knowledge
of God's words and grace. He also grew in the
gift of evangelism, which has now become one of
his passions. Shortly after accepting Christ,
Alan began traveling to many countries
throughout Europe, North Africa, Mexico, and
Central America. During these travels to 26
different countries, the Lord gave Alan a deep
love for people of different cultures and a
desire to reach them with the Gospel.
In 1979, Alan graduated from Brooks Institute of
Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. with a B.A. in
Industrial and Commercial Photography. During
this time, he started attending Calvary Chapel
of Santa Barbara. After graduating, he moved to
Newport Beach, CA. and started a photography
business. While there, Alan began to fellowship
and serve at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa. God
gave him a desire during this time to become
more involved in ministry, and in October 1980,
Alan went to a language school in Mexico to
learn Spanish. During the last two weeks of
school, the Lord spoke to him and called him to
serve in Mexico. There he served for 22 years as
a missionary and helped establish five churches
in the states of Sonora, Sinaloa, and Chihuahua.
During this period Alan met his wife Julie and
together they have two children, Ryan and
Suzanne. Alan and Julie pastored a church in
Alamos, Mexico for 13 years. God started
speaking to Alan and Julie about returning to
the United States. Through a vision in an
afterglow, and at Pastor Robert's invitation to
serve at Calvary Tucson, Alan has received new
direction, not just for Mexico, but for world
missions.
