PAUL
ALMQUIST
Assistant Pastor / Music Director
Paul has played guitar for as long as he can
remember and has always had a great passion for
music. In fact, music was a catalyst
used to bring Paul to the saving knowledge of
Christ. The Holy Spirit used two songs in
particular to show Paul he was a
sinner (“Broken Promises” by the Resurrection
Band) and that Jesus died for the sinner (“A
Friend In You” by Jon Gibson). Remarkably, there
was a seven year period of time from one song to
the next. At age 14 he was convicted of his sin,
and at age 21 he confessed Christ as Messiah.
In February of 1991, Paul's passion for music was
redirected to Christ, and he determined that any
musical pursuit from then on would be for Jesus
and Jesus only. Since that time, God has
afforded him opportunities to minister through
music in settings that range from large arenas
to small confined rooms filled with prison
inmates. His heart-felt desire is to use music
to be all things, to all men, for the sake of
the Gospel.
Paul is the music director at Calvary Tucson,
and serves alongside the other worship team
members to lead God’s people in corporate
worship. In addition to
this, he coordinates many of the music ministry
events at Calvary Tucson along with
outreaches to the community. He also acts as
liaison for the prison and homeless ministries.
Lastly and most importantly, Paul has the
ministry of being a husband and a dad. He and
his wife, Denise, have five daughters.
